About the artist
I don’t remember when I started drawing. I doodled and looked at how-to-draw books before I ever received any real instruction. I took my first real classes at age 10 surrounded by adults as the only child in the group. In these sessions I was introduced to a concept from a book titled “Drawing on the right side of the brain.” While pseudoscientific, this book offered an alternative perspective on what good drawing could like. Instead of construction lines & imagined geometry, this book encouraged stripping bias from one’s visual field to achieve an abstract clarity. This hypnotic state of receiving and encoding visual information, allowing identity & classification falls away into noise turned into a deep appreciation for visual stimuli as such. This practice has only ever become more enchanting and meditative through the years. Through painting, I stare at moments I capture in the world around me everyday, and chip away at them to find myself buried within. I hope what I’ve made brings you at least a glimmer of the clarity and insight it has brought me.
